| That's quite an undertaking for someone who just got PS CS3. I can see about four or five advanced techniques employed in that banner. For now I can at least tell you what techniques to watch tutorials of first. From what I've seen the layer mask is probably used the most in your example. The background is made up of custom shapes (shape tool) and repeating patterns. Then there are a few layerstyles, most notably, drop shadow and outer glow. The text looks to be pretty straightforward text with the type tool.
Now the big question is whether you want to have those interactive buttons that appear in the example. That is a whole different ball game. But I'll see what I can come up with as far as a simple banner tutorial. For now, check out: layer masks, custom shapes, layer styles, the type tool, the quick selection tool and refine edge. They should help you with some background info. | | | |

| First thing I want to thank you so much for your help I have been using the tutorial for cs3 and you have helped me so much I am on step - The Next Step: Working With Guides I will for sure highly recommend you to everybody. My only problem I am having is when I do - The Next Step: Working With Guides since I did not see you set that up when I put the images on the background they are so tiny I can not even see them .so when I try to enlarge them they are so grainy.
I think I will finish the videos then start to work on a banner..lol

| that means your hard drive is full - photoshop uses your hardrive as "scratch disk" which is basically extra space to store data when you are working on large/complex files.
Try going to Edit >> Preferences and then Scratch Disk ( i think) and see if you can set the scratch disk to a different drive (if you have a D Drive). Once you get to doing a lot of photoshop work you will likely want a dedicated drive for the scratch disk - or at least a partially dedicated drive for the scratch disk.

| Where did you get the images that you are working with that are so small? are they scans? from a digital camera? it sounds like they are too low of a resolution to do what you want.
